The Big 2025 Trip was unexpectedly cancelled, for reasons beyond our control.
We were a bit devastated. Yes, first world problems, but we don't travel like we used to so these big trips every couple of years mean a lot to us. Yesterday we genuinely grieved a bit – after all, the Big Trip is the highlight of the year for us and the space I can put my ADHD hyperfocus into.
So now we're pivoting. I feel insane, like I'm making last-minute decisions without having time to properly research them, but because I have done so much research into the trip and adjacent trips, I'm actually pretty prepared?
We're going in a new direction (literally and figurately) and trying out a classic vacation, one where we relax and enjoy warm weather, and not try to experience All The Things.
It will be shorter than originally planned, but it will also fit better into my schedule. I won't have to take time during my vacation to do any work. I could... leave the laptop at home????
Also, it will be cheaper than our original trip.
So there are many good things about this pivot.
But I'm still sad, because I was crafting an amazing trip originally, and have to let that planning go.
Maybe next year, since I'm saving money by taking a smaller trip this year.
(I know vacations are not technically needs but they are in this family – they're the reason I'm fine with forgoing other things in my daily life so I can experience a new location every year or two.)
